NZTA Motorway Traffic Management LightStar Cabinets

  • 18. 5 km Puhoi to Warkworth Motorway Extension (SH1)
  • LightStar* cabinets designed and installed to meet traffic management system requirements.

Introduction

SICE is a leading multinational company in the integration of technologies for public infrastructure management. Spanning back over 100 years, it has become an international benchmark in the areas of ITS, tunnels, transport, mobility and smart city services, tolls, water management, security and civil engineering. SICE arrived in New Zealand in 2011 and has expanded their presence with several major projects.

The Challenge

Our client, SICE New Zealand, was the main contractor for Northern Express Group (NX2), a public-private partnership consortium responsible for the 18.5 km Puhoi to Warkworth motorway extension of the four-lane Northern Motorway (SH1) from the Johnstone’s Hill tunnels to just north of Warkworth.

SICE had over 30 separate design requirements to meet the unique demands of the traffic management system for the extension. The project required a range of hardware and functions, which needed a consolidated approach to ensure seamless integration and deliver a cost-effective solution.

The Solution

To meet these specifications, each cabinet needed a unique gear tray and wired circuit. Backed by 37 years of experience in this industry and the solid expertise of our engineering and design teams, we designed and installed these uniquely wired cabinets, using CableWays’ Lightstar* single and double door cabinets with pole mount options.

The Outcome

These cabinets continue to operate as designed, monitoring traffic and managing traffic flow on the SH1 motorway extension.
